Sub.: Request for inputs regarding India-Australia ECTA – reg.

 

As members are aware that Ind-Australia ECTA came into force on 29th December 2022 and has completed more than one year.

In a recent communication from the Ministry of Commerce it has been informed that various committees have been constituted to oversee the operationalization of this agreement and the meeting of such Committees/Working Groups is scheduled for the first week of March 2024.

Further, a Joint Technical Sub-Committee on Rules of Origin and Customs Procedures and Trade Facilitation has also been constituted under Article 4.32 of this agreement.  The objective of this Sub-committee is to identify the challenges faced by the trade and industry and propose strategies/solutions to overcome them.

The ultimate aim of all committees is to help the exporters/importers seize the opportunities provided by this landmark Agreement and achieve sustainable growth of bilateral trade between India and Australia.

In this regard, department of commerce has requested to provide information on the following:

  • The challenges related to the Rules of Origin and Customs Procedures faced by the exporters/importers since its entry into force.
  • Any inconsistencies w.r.t. the relevant ROO provisions, highlighting the sector impacted.
  • Any setbacks or obstacles to the free movement of goods between India and Australia under the Ind-Aus ECTA

Members are kindly requested to share their inputs on the above, by 15th Feb 2024 so that the same can be forwarded to DoC for further necessary action.
