Request for comment on Tolerance Limit in IS 17261:2022 for Polyester Continuous Filament Fully Drawn Yarns – reg.
Cir(080)/2023 June 19, 2023
Committee:
Dear Sirs/Madam,
Sub.: Request for comment on Tolerance Limit in IS 17261:2022 for Polyester Continuous Filament Fully Drawn Yarns – reg.
This has reference to the IS 17261:2022 on the Polyester Continuous Filament Fully Drawn Yarns. In a recent meeting conducted by BIS to discuss the amendments in the aforesaid specification, some of the user industry was of the viewpoint that the tolerance limit given for the Physical Requirements of Polyester Fully Drawn Yarn (IS attached) is not appropriate and the fabric formed with such yarn will not be of good quality. They opined that the maximum tolerance limit allowed should be in the range of +/- 1%.
Some of the domestic manufacturers who were present during the meeting were of the viewpoint that the tolerance level of +/- 1% is too high as per the prevailing technology being used.
BIS has asked the user industry to give the technical data of the yarn being supplied by their suppliers and also to inform if any overseas/domestic manufacturer is manufacturing the yarn in the tolerance limit being asked by them, so that a decision towards finalizing the tolerance limit can be taken.
To get a wider view on this issue, we request for your inputs in this matter before 22nd June 2023 so that CITI can share a more representative view on this matter.
Placed for your information and necessary action.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
Chandrima Chatterjee
Secretary General
