It is to inform members that the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) is currently undertaking an exercise for the review and mapping of HSN (Harmonized System of Nomenclature) codes, with a view to facilitating appropriate classification and identification of products under the relevant tariff lines.

A more precise and product-specific HSN classification would enable accurate product-wise trade data, better assessment of import-export trends, reduce classification-related disputes and provide greater clarity on applicable duties and taxes. It would also support targeted policy interventions for the identified products.

In this regard, if the members have any products/codes pertaining to Textile & Apparel products and that may require inclusion, modification or creation of a new HSN code, the same may be submitted in the prescribed format given below:

The justification should, to the extent possible, be supported by relevant trade data and analysis, including the trade significance of the product and the rationale for its separate identification/classification under a new HSN code.

Members are requested to submit their inputs latest by 8^th September 2026 to enable CITI to collate the responses and submit a consolidated representation to the concerned Department within the stipulated timeline.
