Sub.: Request to join Session on Responsible Business Practices for the Textiles and Apparel Sector – reg.
Dear Sirs/Madam,
UNDP’s Business and Human Rights (B+HR) programme works with governments, businesses, civil society, academia and other stakeholders to effectively implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs) and advance responsible business practices throughout global supply chains.
As part of its B+HR Global programme, with support from the Government of Japan, UNDP is working with the private sector to build capacities of companies, their suppliers, and partners in India on facilitating uptake of responsible business actions throughout business models and value chain, across various sectors/industries. This includes improving the ability and understanding of businesses, suppliers and partners to carry out Human Rights Due Diligence (HRDD) effectively through meaningful stakeholder consultations and grievance redressal mechanisms. Please learn more here
According to the UNGPs, all business enterprises regardless of their size, sector, location, ownership, and structure, are required to undertake HRDD to identify, prevent and mitigate adverse impacts on people and the environment, thereby helping them manage potential and actual risks. This obligation has been adopted by major economies, including Japan, Germany, France, Australia, and Norway, and most recently by the EU through its Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (EUCSDDD). Undoubtedly, this will also have significant implications on companies from India especially those that are part of or engage with the global supply chain. In India this shift is signalled through the enforcement of the Business Responsibility and Sustainability Report (BRSR) and the recent BRSR Core frameworks by India’s Market regulator – Securities Exchange Board of India (SEBI).
With an aim of providing companies in the textile and apparel industry with an introduction into UNDP’s B+ HR Academy and the evolving regulatory landscape on responsible business practices both globally and in the Indian context, a virtual session is being organized on 25th November 2024 details of which are as below:
Time: 10:30 am – 12:00 pm (IST)
Registration Link: https://forms.gle/3LV8Dc9UnrLgqm698
It may be noted that there is no registration fee for the session, however, prior registration is mandatory.
This session will also seek inputs from the participating companies to understand their experiences and any challenges they face particularly in their sector while implementing responsible business practices, identifying and managing risks.
CITI is the industry partner for this event and invites all its industry members to nominate their Senior/Mid level managers to joint this event. We strongly encourage Human Resources, Diversity and Inclusion and Sustainability divisions/departments to join.
Placed for your necessary action.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully,
(Chandrima Chatterjee)
Secretary General
