Committee:
Sub.: Notifying BIS Standard on VSF as QCO: Notification of the QCO to WTO and public domain – reg.
Dear Sirs/Madam,
This to inform you that the Ministry of Textiles vide Office Memorandum No.12015/16/2022-IT dated 29th July 2022 has decided to make BIS Standard viz., IS 17266:2019 for Textiles – Viscose Staple Fibre prepared by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) mandatory through QCO (copy attached).
The standard was based on Textiles Committee’s draft QCO (copy attached) and as per consultations with trade & industry associations and TRAs.
The Legislative Department, Ministry of Law and Justice has also vetted the draft QCO and found it formally in order. Department of Commerce has been requested to notify the QCO on WTO giving a time limit of 60 days to receive comments.
Recognizing that India is one of the largest market and hence the growing need to address health and safety issues of the consumers in India, the Government is in the process of formulating QCOs for several textile products, especially for those which are witnessing rise in cheaper imports.
Members are requested to note the above and share feedback/ suggestions in case of any concerns being faced in this regard.
Thanking you,
Yours faithfully
Mrs. Chandrima Chatterjee
Secretary General
