Sub.: Sector-specific suggestions/inputs on the existing BIS standards – reg.

Dear Sirs/Madam,

The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is in the process of framing the next version of Standards National Action Plan (SNAP) 2022-2027, a document to outline the new priorities and the strategic way forward in advancing the goals of national standardization.

At present Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is following the SNAP 2019 which includes 1486 standards for Textile Department. (https://www.services.bis.gov.in/php/BIS_2.0/dgdashboard/Published_Standards).

Apart from identifying the sector specific standardization needs, priorities and subjects, the SNAP envisions to also determine the strategic initiatives that BIS as the national Standards Body needs to consider to align national standardization efforts to enhance competitive position of Indian products and services and establish a Brand India quality in global market, while addressing issues of sustainability and climate change.

During the meeting held on 22nd August 2022 at Manak Bhawan, New Delhi, BIS has sought sector specific inputs for the following:

  1. Any new requirement for standards in any of the textile products that can be benchmark quality, encourage innovation and help the industry in entering new markets.
  2. Any concerns or suggestions regarding the existing standards that need to be incorporated.
  3. Any other suggestions regarding the services being provided by BIS towards strengthening the quality parameters of the textile sector.
  4. We look forward to your suggestions in the following format:

  1. BIS has also invited industry suggestions for training requirements for better understanding and use of the existing standards.

It is, therefore requested to send your suggestions in the given format latest by 30th August, 2022.
