CITI welcomes Task Force on Textiles formed by Ministry of Commerce for a whole-of-government approach to increase textile exports

New Delhi, June 10, 2025:

The Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI) welcomes the whole-of-government approach adopted by the Ministry of Commerce to ensure that textile exporters can derive the fullest advantage of the trade agreements already concluded by India and those on the verge of being signed, CITI Chairman Shri Rakesh Mehra said.
Chaired by the Commerce Secretary Mr Sunil Barthwal, the Task Force comprises all Textile Export Promotion Councils and industry associations. It also includes departments and ministries like the Department of Commerce, Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Ministry of Power, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, the DGFT, the DPIIT, the Department of Revenue, Department of Agriculture and Farmers welfare, Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals and the Bureau of Indian Standards.
The Task Force aims to resolve various constraints at the policy and procedural levels by looking at various issues ranging from the performance of textile exports in 20 countries of significance and FTA countries to issues around sustainability and ESG compliance, how to strengthen e-commerce for export growth, skill development, effectiveness of various ongoing schemes, including the PLI scheme, quality control orders, PM MITRA parks etc. the Task Force aims to increase exports to $100 billion by 2030 by encouraging deeper trade with the top global textile destinations, including key markets such as the US, UK, and the European Union.
As a significant contributor to India’s overall export basket, a huge foreign exchange earner, and one of the biggest job generators in the country, the textile arena has always played a pivotal role in the nation’s growth and development. With the trade agreements opening the doors for unprecedented opportunities, India’s textile sector is confident that, going forward, it can contribute in a bigger way to the realization of the Viksit Bharat goal.
On its part, CITI will continue to proactively engage with authorities at the Centre and states, and with textile industry players including those which fall in the MSME category, to further raise the competitiveness of the Indian textile sector through innovation, sustainability, and skill development so that the industry can touch newer heights of success.
