Textile Minister Hails CITI’s efforts towards improving sustainability in the Textile Value Chain
Jaipur, Wednesday, March 15, 2023: Shri Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Textiles inaugurated the 3rd Global Textiles Conclave through Video conferencing held in Jaipur on March 15, 2023. He congratulated CITI for organizing the 3rd edition of GTC with “Strategies for Balancing Sustainability and Profitability in Textile Value Chain” a theme of utmost importance along with the 1st edition of India Textile and Apparel Fair (ITAF) and CITI Textile Sustainability Awards 2023.
The Minister was delighted that the conclave was happening on World Consumers’ Rights Day as consumers have today evolved and demand more transparent practices to be followed for the products they use that would in turn help in reducing the carbon footprint. He also stated that the early signs have already begun from the EU with Carbon Border Adjustment Tax reforms. He emphasized the need for adopting sustainability that would help overcome the challenges of climate change.
The Minister pointed out that the Government is doing its best to provide the necessary ecosystem for the textile industry to be present in one place where plug-and-play model infrastructure will be made available where the entire textile value chain can be relocated and our products can be made competitive in the foreign markets to boost the 5 F vision of Prime Minister Modi.
He further pointed out that the Hon’ble Prime Minister has introduced Product Linked Incentive Scheme, Samarth, National Technical Textile Mission, various schemes to develop small textile clusters, Silk Samgra scheme to promote silk, Jute I -care to support Jute Industry, and the ROSCTL Scheme which is still being supported by the Government in industry’s favour.
The Hon’ble Minister reiterated that Government’s efforts are to make the textile industry competitive by breaking the silos between different segments and line ministries work as one government. He was confident that collectively our efforts can bring game-changing and extraordinary results in the years to come.
He urged the industry players to collectively pledge to also mainstream their efforts towards sustainability and circularity in the textile sector.
He stated that make sustainable living convenient, sustainable business profitable and ensure sustainable change becomes fashionable! He emphasized industry players to evolve their business around 3 P’s People, Planet and Profit collectively and collaborate with premier institutions like IIT’s, DRDO, NIFT for research and development to create sustainable supply chains. He exhorted the industry to make Zero defect zero effect their success mantra.
He further urged the industry players to focus on research, sustainable practices, compliance, and innovation including the start-up ecosystem to leverage technology and new ideas. He also asked the industry to focus on circular economy, so that, while recycling lets us do rethinking to make our products world-class in the international market and regain the lost glory.
